5-Element Acupuncture

My practice of acupuncture is unique; after needles are placed, I stay with the client adding acupressure to the scalp and/or reflexology of the feet, hands, or ears to facilitate deep relaxation + therapeutic restoration. Classical Five Element Acupuncture is shamanic medicine. Informed by the wisdom of Taoist philosophers who, for thousands of years, observed and recorded the rhythms and cycles of the natural world. Acupuncture uses fine sterilized needles applied at specific points throughout the body to effect appropriate change in a person’s Qi energy. Qi has been described as energy, breath and the basis for all phenomenon in the universe. The five elements present in all life are: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, & Water. Wood is the energy of spring; it gives us the capacity for birth and renewal. The wood element empowers us to move forward with vision, creativity and determination. Fire is the energy of summer; it engenders warmth, connection, communication and the means to love and be loved. The fire element sparks our maturity and empowers us to blossom. Earth is the energy of late summer which provides us with the nourishment of an abundant harvest allowing us to nurture ourselves and others. The earth element grounds and center our energy and represents the great mother. Metal is the energy of autumn; it enriches our lives giving us our sense of quality and value. The metal element inspires us and also allows us to let go. Metal represents the father and our spiritual connection. Water brings the elements full circle. Water is the energy of winter; it offers us time to pause, reflect and gather strength. Like snow accumulating in the mountains, taking rest in the winter time helps us build our energy reserves to use in the warmer months. The water element purifies and cleanses; it gives us our primordial life-force.
